Kleffner Ranch
The Kleffner Ranch, also known as the Child-Kleffner ranch, is located just north of East Helena on Highway 518 near the Prickly Pear Creek. William C. Child purchased this ranch, which he called the White Face Farm, in the late 1880s and built the 27,000 square foot barn in 1887 and the octagonal house in 1888. Child went bankrupt in the Silver Panic of 1893 and died in October of that year. The ranch was owned or operated by a number of families for the next fifty years. In 1943 Paul Kleffner leased the ranch, which he purchased three years later. The Kleffners owned and operated the ranch until 2005, when it was sold to Denis and Stacy Young. The barn and house on the ranch were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. (Photo)
